Lena and John’s Wedding
Lena and John were wed on October 27 with a gorgeous reception at the Greenhouse Loft in Chicago. We were thrilled to provide their wedding photography for this National Park themed wedding.
John + Lena’s Greenhouse Loft Wedding
When they booked with us they shared their love story, and I think it's worth repeating - in their own words:
"The story of "us" includes college, our first jobs, our second jobs, our third jobs, moving across the country, suffering tremendous familial and personal hardships, physical injuries, mental illness, losing our home after our neighbor drove his truck through it, being laid off, publishing papers, creating brilliantly successful things, promotions, growing personally and professionally, climbing literal mountains, winning trail runs, and discovering new and amazing parts of ourselves. Always as "us". Every tear of pain, every tear of joy has meant a hand held and foundation strengthened. It is not hyperbole to say that every day just keeps getting better."
Knowing how much Lena and John’s love has endured, we knew it would be such a special event to photograph. Their love is strong, deeply rooted in mutual respect. It was truly a pleasure to be their wedding photographer.
Wedding Portraits at the Art Institute of Chicago South Garden
John and Lena share a deep love of the outdoors and were hopeful for some beautiful outdoor photographs of themselves and their wedding party. Late October is always a bit tricky in Chicago, because you never know what kind of weather you're going to get. The weather had been on and off, and the location Lena and John originally wanted to go to required a permit that they could not get. So, at the very last minute I suggested the Art Institute of Chicago, South Garden. They had totally forgotten about this beautiful spot, even though they both absolutely love it! You can really see how well it worked for them in the photographs.
Even though they’re both far from the city now, living in San Francisco, Lena and John really love Chicago. They wanted to make sure their wedding photographs showcased the city in the background, too. Together, we took some time walking the streets of Chicago to capture some portraits of the bride and groom. I’m really pleased at how we were able to capture their love, the outdoors, and the windy city in their wedding photography.
A National Park Themed Wedding
John and Lena went with a National Park theme for their wedding. Since they both have a deep love of the outdoors, hiking and traveling, it was awesome that they found a way to channel that passion into their wedding. All of their details subtly supported their wedding theme. From the flowers and the colors to the dinner table centerpieces and table names, their wedding day details were thoughtfully supportive of their National Parks theme. They even had a s’mores desert station! Everything was designed around their travels, the national parks, the outdoors, and camping. We love when couples take something that is a part of who they are and translate it into their wedding day details.
Take their favors as an example: the couple's party favors included some of their favorite camping trip treats, one of those being Sudden Coffee, a new instant coffee startup based in San Francisco.

Their wedding ceremony was filled with joy. It was clear how much support this couple has in their family and friends. There were some emotional, tearful moments filled with genuine joy. After they were named husband and wife, it was time for an amazing celebration.
Lena sings in an a cappella group, and they performed during the cocktail hour. Lena surprised everyone and made a performance with the group, too!
Lena and John, thank you for asking This Is Feeling Photography to be a part of your wedding day. We all wish you many years of warm fires, bright stars, and adventures together. May your love take you to even more beautiful places together. Congratulations!
